Keith Funk’s love of plants runs deep. As a kid, he was the one poking around flower beds, curious about how things grew and why some plants thrived while others struggled. That early curiosity never went away. It grew into a lifelong fascination with the way gardens can transform not only a home but also how people feel in it.

For more than three decades, Keith has been a trusted voice in Colorado horticulture. As host of The Garden Wise Show on Legends 810 AM, he has spent Saturday mornings answering listener questions from the high country to the plains, mixing solid science with practical, real-world advice and plenty of laughter. Colorado gardeners know Keith for his clear explanations, creative problem-solving, and down-to-earth style that makes even complex topics feel approachable.

Off the air, Keith has helped thousands of gardeners through his years at Echter’s and now at Nick’s Garden Center, where he has guided everyone from brand-new plant parents to seasoned green thumbs. His Denver gardens have been featured on tours, showcasing his passion for water-wise, four-season landscapes that are as resilient as they are beautiful.

Today, Keith continues to teach, inspire, and cheer on gardeners at every level. Whether he is walking a listener through a pest problem, writing Q and A features for Colorado Gardener, or sharing plant wisdom in person, his mission is the same. Help people succeed, help them have fun, and help them see what is possible when they dig in and grow.

Keith believes gardening is ultimately about connection. To the soil, to the seasons, and to each other. He loves watching that spark of confidence when someone realizes they can grow more than they ever thought possible and that their garden can truly feel like home.

I have been happily working in horticulture for over 30 years. After earning my first degree in 1995, I quickly found my passion for trees, flowers, and the natural world, discovering that horticulture was my true calling. I have maintained my CCNP certification since 2009 and currently serve on the CNGA ProGreen Board, where I continue to expand my knowledge, encourage healthy ecosystems, and stay current on industry trends. My experience at Nick’s Garden Center spans more than two decades, where I have embraced many roles through each season—from garden design and nursery operations to diagnostic services and creative merchandising. I am also an herbalist and edible gardening consultant.

Outside of work, I enjoy cultivating a sanctuary of abundant perennial gardens at my home, where every creature is welcome and biodiversity thrives. I have become a proud steward of hundreds of houseplants and delight in nurturing wildlife that visits my space. I hope to continue helping beautify my community, inspiring green thumbs, and fostering a love of nature for many years to come. Until then, you can often find me savoring sunset moments with a cup of tea in hand, watching hawk moths dance among fragrant herbs, and enjoying the peaceful magic of the garden air.

Kevin Dill

Marketing Guy

Introduction

Kevin Dill is the creative partner and systems tinkerer behind Garden Wise Guy. A veteran digital designer and strategist, he also brings real-world experience with hydroponics, aquaponics, and designing his tilapia farm. Kevin connects horticulture, storytelling, and technology so the team can teach gardeners not just what to grow, but how to build thriving, sustainable systems at home.

Kevin Dill is the creative engine behind the Garden Wise Guy brand, blending deep technical skill with a genuine love for growing things. While Keith brings decades of horticulturalz wisdom on air, Kevin works behind the scenes to shape how that wisdom reaches people. He designs the Garden Wise Guy digital presence, refines the messaging, and builds the systems that help listeners become loyal fans and confident gardeners.

Kevin’s connection to plants is hands-on, not just pixels and pages. He has spent years experimenting with hydroponics and aquaponics, dialing in nutrient balance, light, and water flow to grow food efficiently in small spaces. That curiosity led him to build and maintain a working tilapia aquaponics setup, where fish, plants, and bacteria form a living cycle. Kevin has wrestled with pumps and plumbing, water tower pressure, filtration, and real-world problems like algae, root health, and system stability.

That blend of practical grower experience and digital strategy makes Kevin a unique asset to the Garden Wise Guy team. He understands the worries and questions of new growers, because he has solved many of the same problems in his own systems. When he helps craft designs, articles, or other marketing material, he is always thinking about clarity, confidence, and what will help someone actually take the next step in their own yard or indoor garden.

For Kevin, Garden Wise Guy is more than a brand. It is a channel to inspire people to grow their own food, play with new systems, and see plants as a path to resilience and joy. Whether he is tuning the website, his goal is the same. Help people grow smarter, easier, and with a lot more confidence.
