I’ve spent the last 14 years renovating an old, overgrown landscape originally planted in the late 1970s. There was lots of gravel, overgrown junipers, and way too much lawn.
Most of the lawn has been removed and replanted with variously themed gardens under the large conifers and deciduous shade trees. Themes include rock/alpine, woodland patio, water feature with disappearing streams, shade gardens, walled cottage garden, raised vegetable beds, tropical back patio, and deck container gardens, and even some espalier fruit trees. The landscape provides four-season interest, and nearly all the seasonal color is provided by perennials, flowering shrubs, vines, and ground covers.
This garden’s estimated size is 1/4 acre.
